Honouring a Legacy of Leadership and Vision
Tribute to Founder & Former Chairman
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” – Benjamin Franklin
The above quote encapsulates the life and philosophy of the late Shri Jairambhai Patel, a visionary who founded the National Institute of Cooperative Management (NICM) Society. His enthusiasm, perseverance, vision and networking profoundly shaped the institution, paving the way for many to advance their careers.
Born in 1926 in Taunggyi, Burma (now Myanmar), Shri Jairambhai Patel’s life exemplified the transformative power of nonviolence, influenced by Mahatma Gandhiji. At just 17, he participated in India’s ‘Quit India’ movement after returning from Burma.
His character was marked by deep respect, love, and concern for others, recognizing and valuing the hard work and perseverance of those around him.
Honouring him by embracing his ideals and striving to fulfill his vision, the staff and institution pay homage to his enduring spirit.
In 1990, the Government of Gujarat appointed him as the Chairman of the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC). That same year, he also assumed the role of Chairman of the Rajkot District Cooperative Bank Ltd. His influence and leadership in the cooperative sector were further solidified in 1992 when he was elected as the chairman of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank.
